Life is a wonderful journey, it is like a series of hikes, with lots of ups and downs, switchbacks, trail crossings, surprising turns, and beautiful scenic spots.

The Sky After the Santa Ana

Published by betchai under Sunset, sunrise, travel Edit This

I know I have mentioned in my previous post that I will be posting a lot about the San Diego Zoo. However, with the too many pictures I have, I still have not sorted them :( . And since today is a gloomy day in San Diego, I will revisit the sky from last Sunday and Monday, when the sky was still all sunny and bright :) . The past week we had been sunny and warm due to Santa Ana wind. After the Santa Ana, a storm from the ocean is developing which brought rolling clouds gracing the sky wonderfully. During this transition from off shore wind to on shore wind Sunday, clouds were just beautifully adorning the sky. After the the zoo last Sunday, we did not feel like going anywhere but home. I thought once home I would have to stop taking pictures. But then, I saw the sky changing color, so I decided to extend my picture taking for a while. Here are some pictures from last Sunday’s sky at sunset and dusk from our backyard, arranged from the earliest taken to the latest.

Looking North East (earliest picture taken)

Looking Northwest

Looking Southeast

Looking Southwest

The 3rd picture, the cactus is really not supposed to be there :) . However, I thought it would look more interesting if something is silhouetted  against the colorful sky. I took a pot of cactus and put it on top of the fence :( I also took a picture of it with a flash, to show more details of the cactus.

same as picture #3 above, but with flash fired

This cactus has beautiful yellow blooms come March or April I guess. I may have to take a picture of this cactus with its yellow flower when its time to bloom come. Am I not scared of its prickly thorn? Actually no, as long as you handle the cactus well, its thorns would not really fly into you and prick you :) . I love cactus and succulents, I have a small cactus and succulent garden and I love them during February or March when they are adorned with colorful flowers.

Going back to the sky after the Santa Ana, on Monday morning, after a beautiful Sunday sunset, here was how the sky looked:

Sunrise ( 1)

Sunrise (2)

There were more clouds rolling in. This may not be my favorite sunrise picture taken from our backyard, but the presence of the clouds on the sky always provides a different setting. Sometimes, we really do not have to look so far to appreciate the gifts of nature, sometimes, all we need is to step outside and look at the sky.

I will continue Monday’s beautiful sky at Piedras Pintadas trail in my next post.
