Fall Meets Winter at Christmas

Published by betchai at 2:22 am under desert, mountains, ocean Edit This

Rancho Bernardo

Yes, it is still fall here in San Diego. With daytime high in the 60s or 50s, and nighttime low in the 30s or 40s, the fall colors here and there last very long.

But it is also winter at the mountains at the same time….

San Diego Bay and the Snow Capped Mountain Behind

And another storm is heading this Christmas week to make more winter wonderland at its mountains

Mount Laguna, San Diego County

Someone’s Snowman :)

Though we do not get snow along the coast and inland valleys of San Diego, but its mountains and foothills do get snow every winter, and I like it just that way. I prefer to just look at the snow capped mountains glittered by the sun and only go to the nearby mountains when it is really sunny enough for me to enjoy both the white stuff and the sun, snow and the sand.

Nature’s Giant White Christmas Tree Against Blue Sky

San Diegans enjoy the best of three worlds. The ocean, the mountains and the desert. And last week’s storm even brought snow at Anza Borrego Desert State Park. Check out professional photographer Ron Niebrugge’s post on desert wonderland at this link http://www.my-photo-blog.com/desert-winter-wonderland

If you remember my post last time on Cactus Loop Trail at Anza Borrego ( http://sandiegobackroads.today.com/2008/09/26/cactus-loop-trail-anza-borrego-desert-state-park/ ) that is where Ron Niebrugge took his desert wonderland picture, at Tamarisk Campground. I find it amazing the cactus are fully bathed with snow and mixed with branches of pines that fell of the trees.

And the winter gloom is again forecasted to hit San Diego and most of Southern California starting tomorrow until Christmas. Did I not say in my previous post I love rain? I really do! I love to see the dry waterfalls burst with rushing water again. I love to see heaven sent wildflowers again as far as my eyes can see. But for Christmas, I am so unlike most people probably that wish for a white Christmas, I am wishing for a golden Christmas!

Sunrise from our Window

I am dreaming of a golden Christmas

Where days are sunny and really bright

And God’s gift of warm rays glitter

Inviting us all to be merry

Sunset from our Window

I am dreaming of a golden Christmas

Just like in a tropical paradise

Where the golden sun smiles brightly

And leaving us with a sunset that says “sweet dreams” dearly

Such a beautiful contrast with the colorful Autumn trees and gorgeous snow covered trees. I love the little snowman :) What a fantastic scene to see outside your window. Great post and by the way I wrote about you on my blog today at http://apoetsview.today.com/2008/12/22/travel-san-diego/
