The Lake Poway loop trail is an excellent exercise trail for runners, walkers and bikers. The trail combines a good mixture of flats, gentle hills, and a few fairly steep switchbacks. There is a small campground off the loop trail which right below it is the Blue Sky Ecological Reserve. Lake Poway can also be hiked from Blue Sky Ecological Reserve.

For non- Poway residents, there is a $5.00 parking fee on weekends and holidays from April to October. However, parking at Blue Sky Ecological Reserve is free. Blue Sky Ecological Reserve is 1.5 miles from Lake Poway.
