Lake Poway Recreation area provides a lot of outdoor recreational activities for everyone, such as fishing, boating, picnicking, running, hiking, horseback riding and biking. The trails in Lake Poway vary in length and level of difficulty. Depending on the trail taken, it may connect to Poway’s more than 60 miles of trail system. The Lake Poway Loop trail on the other hand is a 3.2 mile trail around Lake Poway with beautiful views of the lake.

The Lake Poway loop trail is an excellent exercise trail for runners, walkers and bikers. The trail combines a good mixture of flats, gentle hills, and a few fairly steep switchbacks. There is a small campground off the loop trail which right below it is the Blue Sky Ecological Reserve. Lake Poway can also be hiked from Blue Sky Ecological Reserve.

For non- Poway residents, there is a $5.00 parking fee on weekends and holidays from April to October. However, parking at Blue Sky Ecological Reserve is free. Blue Sky Ecological Reserve is 1.5 miles from Lake Poway.

That looks like it would be such a great place to go in the spring - all year round really, but I love the thought of how beautiful the area would become with the new season.

Nice photos as usual. Did you try crossing the lake by boat or is it prohibited? Here in Sabago lake there is a portion there at you cannot access by boat because it’s prohibited because it’s where the reservoir for the drinking water of Portland is coming from.

    thanks, everyone.

@ Ruthi, the lake is small, it only takes us 2.5 miles to loop around the lake, so, we usually just hike :)

yes, there are others who take the boat for fishing. but then, a lot of times, we hike close to sunset, so there are not much paddlers.

I grew up in Poway, and loved going to the lake for picnics and playing on the playground. Thanks for posting such beautiful pictures!
